Univers Next is a completely reworked version of the original Univers family of typefaces designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1957. After a long process of painstakingly detailed revision, Adrian Frutiger and the design team at Linotype completed this large joint project in 1997. The result: a brilliant and cohesive font family of 63 weights and styles including the 4 monospaced typewriter weights. All the existing weights were completely redrawn, with careful attention paid to making the proportions more consistent with each other and improving fine details such as curves and thick-to-thin stroke ratios. The family was expanded from 27 to 63 weights, providing a much larger framework to graphic designers for choosing just the right style. The bold and condensed weights were reworked for improved legibility and on-screen application. The stroke weights were revised for consistency within each face as well as in relationship to the other weights. By following Frutiger's original designs, the humanist character of the sans serif Univers now comes through more distinctly. The systemized numbering system has also been updated. With its sturdy, clean forms Univers can facilitate an expression of cool elegance and rational competence. In fact, the strong familial relationships between all the styles and weights make it a serviceable choice for large graphic design projects that require versatility with consistency. Frutiger was successful in staying true to his initial aims; the new Linotype Univers does indeed work in longer texts as well as for display settings. The Univers Next Family is a part of the Linotype Platinum Collection and was formerly named Linotype Univers.

When Gerard Unger was doing the sketches for Capitolium, early in 1998, he considered proposing a sans serif for Rome based on the precursors of imperial Roman capitals. Few of these letters from the republican period have survived. They are partly geometrical, with circular Os, and have very little variation in thickness and very small serifs really not much more than thorns. It was from these letters that sans serifs were developed at the end of the nineteenth century (see Mosley, J., The Nymph and the Grot. The Revival of the Sanserif Letter, London, 1999). However, the Agenzia romana per la preparazione del Giubileo decided that a seriffed type would be more suitable for Rome. In the end he took Vesta (named after the temple of Vesta at Tivoli, the ancestral home of all sans serifs) and developed it further on his own initiative. The Roman geometry has gone, there is now a slight difference between thick and thin, and the letters are narrower.

Monotype Type Drawing Office 1928. Gill studied under the renowned calligrapher, Edward Johnston, the designer of the London Underground sans serif typeface. This influenced Gill who later experimented with sans serif designs, and in due course produced a set of capital letters. These became Monotype series 231, produced in 1923, and the forerunner of the extensive Gill Sans range now available. A twentieth century sans serif that has a simplicity of form which does not reject traditional forms and proportions, and gives the face a humanist feel. The lighter weights are highly readable in text and suitable for magazine and book work, whereas the heavier weights are best used for display in advertising, packaging, and labels.

The cheerful ITC Woodland is ideal for graphics, greeting cards, correspondence, and other applications requiring a light touch.

Under the terms of this License Agreement, you have the right to use the software on up to five (5) CPUs.If you need to have access to the Software on more than five (5) CPUs, you must pay Phil's the applicable fees for typefaces used in a multi-system environment. You acknowledge that licensing fees for the Macintosh and PC formats are separate and individual fees.Fonts can be embedded in files such as Adobe Acrobat PDF files for viewing and printing purposes only.No rights are granted to you other than a License to use the Software on the terms expressly set forth in this Agreement.You agree to maintain the Software and other proprietary information in strict confidence and to establish reasonable procedures regulating access to and use of the Software.You will not make or have made, or permit to have made any copies of the Software or portions thereof, except as necessary provided, however, that you may make one copy for back-up purposes for its use with the authorized number of systems hereunder. You agree that any such copies shall contain the same proprietary notices which appear in the Software.Except as stated above, this Agreement does not grant you any right to patents, copyrights, trade secrets, trade names, trademarks (whether registered or unregistered), or any other rights, franchises or licenses in respect of the Software.You agree that you will not modify, alter, disassemble, decrypt, reverse engineer or decompile the Software.This License shall continue until the last use of the Software, unless sooner terminated. This License may be terminated by Phil's if you fail to comply with the terms of this License and such failure is not remedied within thirty (30) days after notice from Phil's. When this License expires or is terminated, you shall either return to Phil's or destroy all copies of the Software as requested.You agree that you will not export or re-export the Software in any form without the appropriate United States and foreign government licenses.The parties agree that all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and noninfringement are excluded.Your sole and exclusive remedy and the sole liability of Phil's in connection with the Software is repair or replacement of defective parts, upon their return to Phil's. In no event will Phil's be liable for lost profits, lost data or any other incidental, or consequential damages, or any damages caused by abuse or misapplication of the Software.You shall not sublicense, sell, lease or otherwise transfer the Software without the prior written consent of Phil's.Use, duplication or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of the rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at 252.227-7013.Maryland, USA law governs this agreement.You acknowledge that you have read this agreement, understand it, and agree to be bound by its terms and conditions.
