    Description

Banco was the first typeface work of French designer Roger Excoffon and was released in 1952. The strong forms look as though they were rolled out of sheet metal and feature upright, tapering strokes. The slight slant, the varying heights of stroke ends, and the relationships between line and curve give Banco font its sense of liveliness and dynamism. Excoffon did not design a matching lower case alphabet for his capitals, but this was accomplished later by Phill Grimshaw, who also designed the light weight. He deliberately 'underdesigned' the lower case forms, producing a more reserved alphabet based on the design ideas of the original.

All rights reserved.

    Description

ITC Rennie Mackintosh was designed in 1996 by Phill Grimshaw, and is the result of research and collaboration between the International Typeface Corporation and the Glasgow School of Art. The letterforms are based on the handwriting and drawings of Scottish designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was widely acclaimed for his highly original buildings, interiors and furniture produced at the turn of the twentieth century in Glasgow. This font family includes two weights, bold and light, each with alternate characters, as well as an ornament font with many Jugendstil decorations. The bold is very close in weight to Mackintosh's actual lettering, and the light was developed for legibility at smaller point sizes. This family is quirky, unusual, and delightfully clever; a good choice for product packaging, advertising, and graphic designs with a period flair.

    Description

ITC Tempus is the work of British designer Phill Grimshaw. He claims that every calligrapher's aspiration is to draw perfect roman capitals with a pen, but admits that this is extremely difficult. For this typeface, Grimshaw used a fountain pen on cheap, porous paper and, of course, the ink bled. The resulting forms are classic but their rugged edges deviate from the perfection of roman type. And Tempus Sans is just Tempus with the serif surgically removed, yet the proportions of the characters work nicely, says Grimshaw. Because of its rough quality, the typeface works best in larger point sizes, yet maintains its characters even in smaller sizes.
